The star has donated the complete sum of his £25,000 award winnings to the MVT, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.

The star was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his latest record People Watching was named the outstanding release of the past year.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function small stages had in his initial steps.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists such as the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their ticket prices, which supports smaller concert halls.

He also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money assisted venues that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues arising from floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations were granted funding support in improving amenities and gear that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The notion that money from performances in major spaces backs the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is among several artists to give his Mercury Prize prize money to worthy causes.

In Pulp won the award in 1996 for their record their work, vocalist Cocker announced that the act would contribute their cash to the charity the charity.

During 2002, rapper and singer she shared her prize across multiple organizations, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I donated a grand to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to a publication.

Two years ago, they donated their funds to the youth organization that developed their group, alongside other independent music bodies.

Additionally 1994 winners M People donated their prize to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the illness.

"The victory was sufficient," stated artist Small. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted another person's life."

Last week, the trust announced it had rescued two small stages in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

The Joiners in Southampton and the second in the city were bought under the public acquisition initiative, which is funded by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who acquire "stakes" in the properties.
